Chapter 15
Georgia wasnât the only one that couldnât get to sleep. Caspien was in the next room over, and he was finding faults in every little thing around him. The bed was too soft, the light too bright and then too dark. The room was too cold and then when he covered up with blankets, it became too hot. Every part of him hated his current situation. None of it had to do with the superficial reasons that he was upset about. It all had to do with Georgia and their one night together. What could have been the night before.
He wasnât doing so good, keeping his distance and keeping her safe at the same time. Caspien had not wanted to explain himself to Georgia, so he had done what he thought was best at the time. It wasnât what was best for her, but what was best for him. How could he explain something that she didn't quite understand? It wasn't like he had proof that she was in danger. It was just this gut feeling, kind of the same one that had told him to hire her. Caspien didn't want to have to explain that. She wouldn't understand. She was just human, after all.
The last bit he said out loud in frustration. She was just a human, so why the hell did all of it bother him so much? Why did he care at all when he wasnât supposed to? Human. Off limits. He knew better.
Caspien heard a soft knock on the door and his heart started to race a little faster. He knew who it was. He knew what would happen if he opened the door, but he couldn't stop himself from moving forward. Of course, he wanted to open the door. Georgia was on the other side of it.
He had made a mistake kissing her, taking her. It had opened up his mind to a way of thinking that he wasn't sure if she would like or not. It had already opened the door to him doing something with a human that he wasnât supposed to. He needed to keep the door shut, never to do it again.
He stopped at the door, waiting just a minute to get his heart rate normal again. She was going to know what he was going through if he didn't pull himself together. Caspien did not want to embarrass himself. A part of him knew that he should just shut the door right there and walk away. It would have been easier. He didnât though, choosing more complications and more rule breaking.
âI was wondering if you were having trouble sleeping?â
Caspien told her that he didn't sleep much and that was the case, though it was mainly because she was there. He didn't have the guts to say that out loud, though. Caspien did not want her to know what kind of power she had over him. He didn't like to admit it to himself, even though there was no denying it.
